The United States Military Academy, known to most as simply Army, is a military academy in West Point, New York. Established in 1802, the campus is about 50 miles north of New York City and overlooks the Hudson River. Army currently enrolls just over 4,400 students each academic year. Because it has a fairly modest number of cadets, there are only a few options when it comes to textbooks. Here are the best places to look close to West Point if you want to shop around for your books:

The USMA Bookstore is the official bookstore serving Army cadets and visitors. It is situated on the fourth floor of Thayer Hall. The store has thousands of books in stock, including new and used college textbooks for cadets in their academic courses. They also sell bestsellers and other general titles as well as souvenir items, computer hardware and software, and food and drink items to keep cadets nourished during their breaks. The store hosts various events throughout the year, including special book signings by authors with military backgrounds. Because the store is affiliated with the Army campus, students know they are getting the right materials and that their money is going toward funding for Army activities.

Antipodean Books is a unique store just blocks away in the nearby town of Garrison. It’s at 29 Garrison Landing. This store sells tons of unique items. Its inventory includes books on all subjects, but it sells lots of maps and antique items with a focus on the local area of New York as well as other geographic regions. Many of these items are used and rare, but you should be able to save some money on the used items. Their selection of books is quite extensive, and they sell lots of books on history and other subjects that are very important to an Army cadet’s education.

The Bruised Apple may not sound like a bookstore, but it is a great local independent bookshop just a few miles from the Army campus in nearby Peekskill. The address is 923 Central Avenue. The Bruised Apple sells new, used, and rare books and also buys back used books, CD’s, and DVD’s. The store has over 50,000 books in stock, which means there is no reason to go home empty-handed after browsing this place. They will help you find the books you need for your classes as well and can probably get you a deal by offering used books at highly discounted prices from the list prices of certain books. Their maps and other history items can be very handy for an Army student.
