Texas State University, more officially known as Texas State University-San Marcos, is a major public research university in San Marcos, Texas, which is in the southwestern part of the state. Founded in 1899, the university has a current annual enrollment of just over 34,000 students, the overwhelming majority of whom are undergraduate students. The athletic teams at the school are called the Bobcats, and Boko the Bobcat is the official school mascot. Texas State students know how important it is to shop around for their textbooks. Here are the best places to look for books in and around the San Marcos area:

The University Bookstore at Texas State is the official on-campus bookstore at the school. It is housed inside the LBJ Student Center at 601 University Drive, a convenient spot for all students to get to no matter where they are on campus. This bookstore is fully stocked with all of the required and recommended materials for every class at the university. You have the option of either purchasing or renting your textbooks here. There are also a number of free digital textbooks available for download. Just check out the store’s website. Other items you will find on the shelves here include school supplies, Bobcats fan gear, gift and souvenir items, as well as discounted hardware and software. You can pick up some cheap dorm supplies, too, if you live on campus.

Colloquium Bookstore at 320 University Drive is an excellent off-campus solution for textbooks. Located right down the street from the Texas State campus, Colloquium Bookstore sells all kinds of textbooks, general books, school supplies, and college gear for students to cheer on their favorite team – the Bobcats, of course. This store offers more used books and a wide selection of textbooks for rent than other stores. Open Monday through Saturday, the store has a special clearance section of gear with everything from hats and hoodies to drink-ware. This store offers lots of discounts and specials, so be sure to ask about them when you shop here. Many items sold in the store are also available for purchase online.

Textbook Solutions is another good place to shop for textbooks in San Marcos. It’s at 209 North Edward Gary Street in downtown San Marcos and is just a short drive from campus. New, used, and rental books are all available here. The store prides itself on offering more money for buybacks as well. The prices on all items here are very reasonable, especially for the used books. Not only does the store buy back textbooks, but also you can sell any new or used books back to the store and get cash right on the spot. Pre-ordering and free online quotes are two other cool features that you can do right on the website. Plus if you ride your bike to the store and need to pump up your tires, you can get free air here. The lines are rarely long here, so it’s a no-brainer to give Textbook Solutions a visit the next time you need to buy textbooks.

Finally, Half Price Books at 900 North Bugg Lane is a great bookstore with a huge selection of general titles along with a good assortment of college textbooks. At Half Price Books, you will find a variety of new and used textbooks. You can also sell your books to the store for competitive prices. Although this store does not specifically specialize in textbooks, there are plenty of them available at low prices. HPB is open seven days a week.
