Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, also known as Florida A&M or simply FAMU, is a large public university in Tallahassee, Florida. FAMU is considered the largest historically black institution of higher education in the U.S. in terms of enrollment. The school has about 13,000 students taking classes each year. FAMU’s athletic teams are known as the Rattlers. Because the university is located in a college town alongside Florida State University, FAMU students have some options on where to buy textbooks for their classes. These bookstores are the best places to shop both on campus and around town:
The Florida A&M University Bookstore is the official campus bookstore serving FAMU students and faculty. It is located inside the Student Service Center at 601 Gamble Street. Open Monday through Friday, the store is fully stocked with all of the latest textbooks and course materials for students of all academic majors. You can buy used textbooks to save up to 25% off the regular prices. You can purchase rental textbooks to save up to half off. Finally, you can buy digital textbooks to enjoy savings of over 60% off the price of a new textbook. Of course, if you prefer starting fresh each semester, new textbooks are for sale. If you want to sell your books back to the store, you can do that as well for a fairly decent return on investment. There are a ton of school supplies, discounted technology items, Rattlers items for game-day, and much more available to meet the many needs of college students. The store partners with other retailers in the Tallahassee community to offer special discounts to students.
Bill’s Bookstore has served the Tallahassee college student community for many years. Bill’s has three different locations throughout Tallahassee. The primary store is located at 111 South Copeland Street. Two additional stores are at 2020 West Pensacola Street, #28, and 1411 West Tennessee Street. You can either shop at one of these stores or shop online. Plus you can reserve books and then either pick them up or have them shipped right to your doorstep for free. This includes books for rent. Other items for sale here include school supplies, dorm accessories, and souvenirs. Most independent bookstores don’t have multiple locations, so that is why Bill’s stands out by offering convenient locations, regardless of where you go to school in Tallahassee.
Finally, Textbook Brokers, located in downtown Tallahassee at 2790 West Tennessee Street, #3, offers fantastic deals on textbooks. Textbook Brokers provides some of the best prices in town, especially on used materials. In addition, you can sell back your used textbooks to the store for an excellent rate. You can also reserve books online to make sure you get the ones you want or purchase them online and have them sent to you. Various rental options are available as well. This store serves FAMU, FSU, and Tallahassee Community College students.
