The University at Albany, SUNY is a large public research university with its main campus based in Albany, New York. Established in 1844, the school is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. It currently enrolls over 17,500 students and is known for its scientific research on an international level. The school’s 24 athletic teams are known as the Great Danes. Albany students have a few options when it comes to purchasing their textbooks and course materials. The following bookstores are the best places to look for books:

The University Bookstore is the official textbook outlet at the University at Albany. This store is housed right on campus on the first floor of the Campus Center. The address is 1400 Washington Avenue if you want to plug it into your GPS. This store carries all of the necessary materials that students need for their classes no matter what their major is. Buy your books brand new, or get them used for savings up to 25%. Rent your books for savings of over 50% off, and buy digital versions of them for up to 60% off the regular retail price. You will also find discounted computer hardware and software here. This includes HP, Dell, and Apple products. In addition, you can pick up all of the Great Danes apparel and clothing that you could possibly need to root on your school’s athletes. Open Monday through Friday with occasional Saturday hours, this bookstore also partners with local retailers to offer even more savings to student shoppers. If you’re looking for a job, consider working here as there are usually new job opportunities each semester.

Mary Jane Books at 215 Western Avenue is a fantastic and unique independently owned and operated college textbook store in downtown Albany. This bookstore serves University at Albany students and anyone else attending college in the Albany area of New York. The store has another location in Cobleskill. This store offers a ton of used books. But you can buy them brand new if you prefer and will enjoy great discounts. Rental options are available as well for many textbooks, and you can recoup up to 50% of the price you paid on used books when you sell them back to the store. One of the great services at this store is the over-the-counter service. What this means is that you just have to bring your list of books in, and a friendly staff member will fetch them for you. A cool raffle is done each semester where you can win back all of the money you spent on your books.

There is also a Barnes & Noble location in Albany at 131 Colonie Center, #355. Barnes & Noble is known for its high quality and great selection of books, including a number of books that college students need or simply want to read in their free time. Plus B&N sells the Nook e-reader. This device is great for students who have digital textbooks and want to take them with them without lugging around heavy books in their backpacks. B&N’s online selection is much larger, and you will find plenty of textbooks this way as well.
